I’m working with my first 100 classes. How do I gauge the uncertainty of leaning \
into pain, sensitivity and intensity?
Be highly conservative because you don’t know the sensations yet. Your teacher might recognize sensations X, Y or Z as correct or normal, but you may not be there yet. For example, if you experience a bruise after an intense shoulder sequence, while this may be correct, it does not yet reflect positive reinforcement within your system.
To fully embrace and welcome stronger sensations, it's essential to first experience positive results that solidify your understanding and comfort with the practice.
Until that happens, conservativeness is the best way to go. Not because there is a risk but because you want to be sure that once you have the velocity going, it’s only positive, so establishing positive reinforcement is way more important.
You want tangible results. For who? For you.
After you see results from this practice, you’ll naturally surrender to the process and be willing to experience more.
You want to get to the end of the hour without thinking about killing me, Sanctuary Yoga, or even the City of Austin. Even if it feels too conservative, it is not. It will guarantee you will be doing this ideally and probably forever.
When we incorporate a new student into this practice, we have a very specific goal. We want you to study with us forever; the initial stages are the most important. There is no reason to be in a rush.
So, conservativeness is a beautiful step forward in this journey.
